Auto Update Utility

A software utility that automatically updates your Taxware® SALES/USE Tax System(s).

• Compatible with Unix and Windows NT Taxware® installations
• Not compatible with Oracle Taxware® Installations (PL/SQL version).

The TaxAutomation Auto Update Utility for Taxware® was designed to automatically update the Taxware® SALES/USE Tax System every month. This application is written in Visual Basic or Java. Auto Update was designed to automatically update (without any human intervention) the TAXWARE:

• Tax Master File (tax rates)
• Product Code & Product Taxability Files (will not overwrite your custom product codes)
• VERAZIP® Files.

Auto Update will update multiple copies of Taxware® installed in one location. It may be necessary to purchase an additional copy of the Auto Update Utility if you have Taxware® installed in more than one location.

CONFIGURATION & INSTALLATION: Configuration and installation of the Utility is performed by TaxAutomation and normally requires about one hour to complete for one or two Taxware® systems. These services are performed remotely (using telephone/email) by a TaxAutomation consultant working with your IT department. A visit to your office is not required.

REQUIREMENTS: The Auto Update Utility is compatible with the "C" version of Taxware® that is installed on Unix or Windows NT. You must have HTTP access to the Internet and FTP access to your Taxware® server(s).

UPDATE SCHEDULE:The Auto Update Utility is scheduled to run every night. The program runs daily because many TAXWARE updates are issued on a random schedule. Auto Update will work with randomly scheduled and monthly scheduled TAXWARE updates.

HOW IT WORKS

Every night the Auto Update Utility will:

• Check TAXWARE's website for any new updates (Auto Update knows which updates were previously applied to your Taxware® system)
• Download the necessary files
• Decompress the files
• Rename the files per Taxware® requirements
• FTP the files to your Taxware® server(s)
• FTP four script files to your Taxware® server(s). These files contain the UNIX commands that apply the updates to the Taxware® system(s).

REPORT LOG

The Auto Update Utility allows you to check the status of update activity. The system creates an audit trail log that records which updates were loaded and which were not loaded for each day.

The first time the program runs, it will create a directory under the Tax Updates application path (usually C:\PROGRAM FILES\TAXUPDATES\) called LOGS. Each night three files are created in this directory:

salestax.mmddyy
verazip.mmddyy
product.mmddyy

These files can be opened in any text editor (ie: WordPad).

USER INSTRUCTIONS

Other than the Report Log, there is nothing else for the user to access. There are no user screens, switches, buttons or options. This is a fully automated update utility. The Auto Update Utility will save you time and money.
