The Problem
Currently the Universal Tax Link
(UTL) software is installed as a single instance for a given financial
application. Integration to the system requires knowledge of the financial
application, the UTL input/output structures and the UTL API. This can
lead to slow integration and added maintenance as described below:
- The existing UTL input and output
records require unique formatting per data type and fixed length input
records
- Understanding the structures
and the format for each field is cumbersome and time consuming
- Each financial application requires
its own instance of the UTL system. This creates multiple audit files
and complicates tax filing
- Each instance of the UTL system
will require routine tax table and jurisdiction updates adding to overall
system maintenance.
The Solution
TaxAutomation has developed a remote
UTL API for simple integration of the Taxware® UTL for the
WorldTax® System, SALES/USE, and Verazip®. This
system allows a single UTL instance to serve as a tax engine for multiple
financial systems at one time. The benefits are highlighted below:
- Allows the programmer to view
the definition of the underlying UTL input/output records
- Provides an object based API
for setting and getting tax information
- API manages the data type and
ensures correct size and formatting of fields
- Eliminates multiple audit files
- C++ and Java API
- Central UTL installation minimizing
support and maintenance efforts
- Multiple platform support (UNIX,
Win32, AS/400)
- Multiple application support
(SAP, PeopleSoft, WebSphere, Oracle, ...).
